MIKE ROBERTSON
CAD/BIM Technician / Nashville
I started working with a local civil engineer in my hometown
while in high school. I found the work to be fascinating since
it allowed me to connect directly with the community I lived in
and make it better through the projects I was working on.
I have had great experiences moving through a multitude of
diverse projects and being mentored by many exceptional
professionals. By spending years learning from administrative
assistants, IT professionals, engineers, and project managers,
I have been able to gain a large knowledge base. Being
taught about all the different parts that encompass a project
gives me a uniquely wide angle view of project design.
One of the greatest pieces of advice came early in my career,
from a construction manager who told me that “You can draw
any number of lines, circles, and text on a sheet of paper, but,
can you actually build it?” That was the first time I realized that
there is a correlation between initiating a design and a fully
constructed project which has stuck with me for decades.
There are few things that give me a sense of accomplishment
more than the ability to construct or fix most anything from
cars and motorcycles to home renovation and woodworking.
My next trip out of the country will be to Banff National Park in
Alberta, Canada!
