61.5.2 Electrication of KR route
At present, on Konkan Railway, the trains are running with diesel traction. After the
electrication, there will be projected saving of ` 200 Crore per annum on fuel cost
and net saving of ` 60 Crore per annum after paying Principal and interest on loan.
Besides the saving, it will help in maintaining the sensitive ecological balance of
Western Ghats. Electrication will also improve the operating efciency of the
Corporation.
61.5.3 Construction of 8 new stations and 7 additional Loop lines
Due to this, capacity of running trains is expected to increase without the
incurrence of considerable expenditure.
61.5.4 Siding for MRPL, Mangalore
Siding trafc operational business is projected at 30 Rakes/ month of various
commodities like pet coke, sulphur, bitumen, polypropylene etc.
61.5.5 Rail Connectivity to Vizhinjam International Seaport, Kerala
The work involves execution of construction works for Rail connectivity from
Seaport to nearest feasible railway station. DPR has been submitted to concerned
authority for approval.
61.5.6 International Projects: PET Survey and Final Location Survey for new BG
line between Raxaul and Kathmandu
East Central Railway (ECR) have awarded Final Location Survey for new BG Line
between Raxaul and Kathmandu to the Corporation. Tender process by KRCL
through IREPS portal is progressing.
61.5.7 Export of Rolling stock to Nepal
Konkan Railway bagged the rst International order for supply of 2 (two) DEMU
train sets to Nepal Railway. The rakes have been manufactured at Integral Coach
Factory (ICF), Chennai and are kept at Sonpur in East Central Railway for delivery
to Nepal.
KRCL is also expected to receive order from Nepal Railway for Operationalizaition
of Jaynagar-Kurtha cross border rail link.
