Let’s Make a Circle Yes We Can

Music player, music speaker, sparkly magic bag, group of friends laminate and magic sparkles
Lesson plan
1. Warm-up: ‘Shake Your Sillies Out’ performed by The Wiggles

3. Travel to Storyland

4. Introduce the theme
“Let’s take a look in the sparkly magic bag and see what clue there is for today’s story.” Take out the laminated picture of a group of friends. Ask the children the following questions.
a) “What is in this picture?”
b) “How many friends are in this picture?” Everyone counts out loud together as you
point to the children in the picture one by one.
c) Everyone counts the friends out loud together three more times, using voice types
explored during today’s ‘Yes We Can’ game.
d) Ask a volunteer to tell everyone something they like to do with their friends. You
act out performing the suggested activity (using upper body) and the children copy
you. Repeat using suggestions from three more volunteers.

5. Action song or poem: ‘Tony Chestnut’ (traditional)

“My best friend is called Tony Chestnut. His name is special because we can say it using our bodies. Toe (touch your toe). Knee (touch your knee). Chest (touch your chest). Nut (touch your head.) Everyone show me Tony’s name after three. One, two, three: toe (touch your toe) knee (touch your knee) chest (touch your chest) nut (touch your head). Now I’m going to sing a song about him and I’d like you to join in with the actions.” Perform the song twice using the actions written below.
Tony Chestnut, (touch toes, knees, chest and then head in time with the words) Knows I love him, (touch nose, point to eyes and then hands on heart)
Tony knows. (touch toes, knees and then nose)
Tony knows. (touch toes, knees and then nose)
Tony Chestnut, (touch toes, knees, chest and then head)
Knows I love him, (touch nose, point to eyes and then hands on heart)
That’s what Tony knows. (clap hands twice then touch toes then knees then nose)
