Lesson plan
1. Warm-up: ‘Shake Your Sillies Out’ performed by The Wiggles

2. Focus activity: Name Game

4. Introduce the theme
“Let’s take a look in the sparkly magic bag and see what clue there is for today’s story.” Take out the heroes laminate. Ask the children the following questions.
a) “I have a picture with lots of heroes.” Ask volunteers to tell you what types of heroes they can see in the picture.
b) “What sort of a vehicle does a police officer drive?” Wait for their response. Everyone pretends to drive a police car and makes the sound of a police car siren.
c) “What sort of a vehicle does a fire fighter drive?” Wait for their response. Everyone pretends to drive a fire engine (using a bigger steering wheel) and makes the sound of a fire engine siren.
d) “There are lots of different types of heroes like fire fighters, ambulance officers, police officers, superheroes and doctors.” Ask a volunteer to tell you their favourite type of hero. You act out doing an activity related to the suggested occupation (using upper body) and the children copy you. Repeat using an idea from three more volunteers.

5. Action song or poem: ‘Catch the Heroes!’ (sung to the traditional tune of ‘Tiny Tim’)
“Now I’m going to give you a lesson on how to become superheroes. Follow me!” Sing the whole song two times as you perform the actions indicated by the lyrics.
The superheroes are flexing, the superheroes are flexing, the superheroes are flexing, in the superhero class.
The superheroes are climbing...
The superheroes are flying...
The superheroes are sleeping... The superheroes are waking...
