       Chop, Chop
    Chop, chop, choppity chop.
Chop off the bottom and chop off the top. What we have left we will put in the pot. Chop, chop, choppity chop.
Stir it round, stir it round,
Tell me what you have found.
  1. The fruit laminates are hidden inside your sparkly magic bag. Tell the babies that you are going to make a fruit salad. Reveal one fruit laminate, show it to the babies and name it. Mime placing the fruit laminate on your chopping board (flat palm facing up). On the first, second and fourth lines, chop it up with your knife (other hand) to the pulse. On the third line (‘What we have left’) put the laminate into the pot (on the floor in front of you). During the final section (‘Stir it round’) make a stirring action to the pulse.
NB: You should encourage the children to keep the laminates where they are “in the pot”, however if a child does take one then it's okay for you to leave it with them.
Have a taste. "I think we need some more fruit. Let's see what else I have hiding in my bag." Repeat the process with the other fruits. Chop quickly with small knives for grapes and slowly with big knives or swords for watermelon.
If there are parents in the class, they hold their baby's palm out and gently 'chop' using their own hand to the pulse and then help the baby to make a stirring action.
   1. Same as for babies
2. Same as for pre-schoolers activity one
  1. Tell the children that you are going to make a soup or fruit salad. Ask a volunteer to suggest a fruit/vegetable to include. Mime placing the suggested fruit/vegetable on your chopping board (flat palm facing up). On the first, second and fourth lines, chop it up with your knife (other hand) to the pulse. On the third line (‘What we have left’), brush the chopped-up fruit into the pot to the pulse. During the final section (‘Stir it round’) make a stirring action to the pulse. Have a taste. "I think we need some more fruit/vegetables." Ask for a suggestion from another volunteer and repeat the process. Chop quickly with small knives for small fruits like grapes and slowly with big knives or swords for larger fruits like watermelon.
2. The children say the rhyme without your help.
3. Talk to the children about healthy eating and how fruit and vegetables are good for them.
