Play the track and perform actions as indicated by the lyrics. Make sure to use lots of energy!
* Running time approx. 1 min 45 secs.
2. Focus activity: Name Game
See weekly drama activity break down for instructions. Remember the theme of the name game changes each term.
* Running time approx. 3 mins (‘Let’s make a Circle’ should take a MAXIMUM of 30 seconds).
3. Travel to Storyland
See weekly drama activity break down for instructions.
* Running time approx. 4 mins (‘Let’s make a Circle’ should take a MAXIMUM of 30 seconds).
4. Introduce the theme
“Let’s take a look in the sparkly magic bag and see what clue there is for today’s story.” Take out a picture of you with your own family. Ask the children the following questions.
a) “Can anyone guess who is in my picture?” Once the children have guessed that it is a picture of your family, briefly name each person in the photo and tell the children how they are related to you. E.g. “This is my mum and her name is Lyndey.”
b) ”Everyone has a different family. Some families have a daddy. Let’s all say ‘hello’ using our daddy voices.” You lead the children in saying “hello” using a low voice. “Some families have a mummy. Let’s all say ‘hello’ using our mummy voices.” You lead the children in saying “hello” using a higher voice. “Some families might have a baby brother or sister. Let’s all say ‘hello’ using our baby voices.” You lead the children in saying “hello” using a high voice. “And some families might have a grandma or a grandpa. Let’s all say ‘hello’ using our grandparent voices.” You lead the children in saying “hello” using a wobbly voice.
c) Ask a volunteer to name someone in their family and something that that person likes to do. E.g. “I have a mummy and she likes driving”. You act out performing the suggested activity (using upper body) and the children copy you. Repeat using ideas from three more volunteers.
* Running time approx. 2 mins 30 secs.
5. Action song or poem: ‘Family, Where Are You?’ (tune of ‘Tommy Thumb’, traditional)
“I know a song about a family with a mummy, a daddy, a brother, a sister and a baby.” Sing the song acapella three times, performing the actions as described below. Before the final repeat, encourage the children to help you sing the words.
