Lesson Plan
1. Warm-up: ‘Shake Your Sillies Out’ performed by The Wiggles See term four lesson one. Make sure to use lots of energy!
* Running time approx. 2 mins.
2. Stretching and curling: Moody Cat See term four lesson one.
* Running time approx. 3 mins.
3. Travel to Danceland: ‘Sleeping Beauty Waltz’ written by Tchaikovsky & performed by Czecho-Slovak State Philharmonic Orchestra
Play the track and the children fly to Danceland like butterflies with scarves as wings as in previous weeks. When you call “gale force winds” they spin around and say “Ahh”. You call “freeze!” and tell them to fly like butterflies again. Repeat several times. Gradually turn down the music when you are ready to finish and congratulate the children on arriving at Danceland.
* Running time approx. 4 mins.
4. Introduce the theme: ‘Let’s Make a Circle’ written by Anne Porter Without speaking, get the children into a circle by singing ‘Let’s Make a Circle’ as in term four lesson one.
Ask the children if they know which special day is coming up. “That’s right, Christmas Day! Christmas is a special holiday that some families celebrate. But not everyone celebrates Christmas. Some people have other special holidays like Ramadan, Hanukkah, Diwali or Hari Raya! Today you’re going to learn all about Christmas.” Put on your Santa hat and wear it for the rest of the lesson. Tell the children about some of the special food that is eaten at Christmas. Ask a volunteer to name their favourite Christmas (or other holiday) food, then encourage the group to mime eating that food. Repeat several times.
NB: Remember, not everyone celebrates Christmas so ensure that your language is inclusive.
* Running time approx. 3 mins.
5. Fine motor skills: Christmas Pudding

Shall we eat a baby piece of Christmas pudding? No! Shall we eat a mummy piece of Christmas pudding? No! Shall we eat a daddy piece of Christmas pudding? Yes! Yum, yum, yum, yum, yum.
* Running time approx. 2 mins.
