P. 2

Set One (45 mins)
 1. INTRODUCTION
“Hi everyone. Firstly let’s all say thank you to Child’s Name for inviting us to his/her birthday party by giving him/her a great big round of applause! My name is Your Name Sparkles and you can remember my name because I have a sparkly magic bag and at the end everyone who joins in will get some magic sparkles and a Haribo treat. Does anyone know what I’m wearing? That’s because I’m a real fairy/pirate and today we’re going to learn all about fairies and pirates. But before we begin, I’m going to give you a little test to see how much you already know!”
2. ACTION GAME: ‘Fairies & Pirates’
Fairy = wave imaginary wand and say “abracadabra”
Pirate = hook arm and say “Arghhh!”
Captain’s coming = all salute and say, “Aye, aye Captain!”
Flying fairies = run on the spot on tippy toes, move arms like wings and say “woosh, woosh, woosh” Scrub the deck = on knees scrubbing floor and saying, “scrub, scrub, scrub”
a) Every time I say “fairy” you have to remember to say, “abracadabra.” Demonstrate the action listed above as you say the magic word. Then, you say “fairy” and the children wave their imaginary wands as they say “abracadabra”. Practice several times.
b) One by one add in the rest of the characters/actions listed above. Make sure to mix up the order in which you are saying them as you teach the game.
c) At first, do all the actions and sounds with the children.
d) When they have got the hang of it, you tell them you are now watching to see if they can be really
clever and remember all of the sounds and actions without your help.
e) Lots of energy!
3. WARM UP DANCE: ‘Shake Your Sillies Out’ performed by The Wiggles
Click on song name to open the video in YouTube.
Play the track and perform the dance as in the video. Make sure to use lots of energy!
4. GET THE CHILDREN INTO A CIRCLE: ‘Let’s Make a Circle’ written by Anne Porter Without speaking, get the children into a circle by singing:
Let’s make a circle,
A circle a circle.
Let’s make a circle,
At insert Child’s Name’s birthday party.
Repeat until everyone is in a circle. Please use this song every time you need the children in a circle throughout the duration of the party.
5. WISHING SONG: ‘Starlight Starbright’ by Traditional
“Let’s see what I have in my sparkly magic bag today.” Reveal magic wand. “What’s this? What does a magic wand do? Today we’re going to use it to wish for things we need to become a real fairy or pirate. You can wish for an eye patch, a parrot friend, fairy wings, a real magic wand or anything else that your heart desires! But first you need to learn the special wishing song and it goes like this.” Point your wand to different children to the pulse as you sing the song acapella.
All:
Starlight, starbright,
First star I see tonight.
Wish I may, wish I might, Have this wish I wish tonight.
You: Birthday girl/boy, (insert child’s name) what’s your wish?
(you may need to give some suggestions)
Child: I wish for fairy wings. (the child invents their own wish)
You: (spoken) Now, let’s all say “One, two, three abracadabra”!
All (spoken): One, two three, abracadabra! (the children wave their imaginary wands)
Repeat several times as above, except for at the end of each verse when you ask the children to put their hand
