up if they would like to make a wish. You then sing “Hello, what’s your wish?” to a child that has their hand up. If you have more than ten children, you could try asking a few children at a time (at the end of each verse before saying “one, two, three abracadabra”) to speed up the activity. If you have more than 20 children you can ask everyone that hasn’t had a turn to shout their wish out at once.
6. CHOREOGRAPHED DANCE ONE: ‘Fairy Dancing’ performed by The Fairies
Click on song name to open the video in YouTube.
“It’s time for you to learn my favourite fairy dance.” Hand each child a wand or pirate sword and practice the tricky moves. Play the track and perform the dance as in the video.
7. PARACHUTE ACTIVITY WITH TOY/S ON TOP: ‘Ten Toys on the Pirate Ship’ (tune of ‘Two Teddies on a Trampoline’ by Linda Bance)
“Who can tell me what pirates use to travel the seven seas? ...Let’s make a pirate ship now with the parachute.” Explain that first they must practice with the imaginary parachute and that if everyone listens really well then you will take out the real parachute. Sing the song and move your arms up and down in time with the pulse. “The sea is very rocky!”
No toys on the pirate ship. Boing, boing, boing, boing. No toys on the pirate ship. Boing, boing, boing.
Repeat the song, but the group is holding the edges of the real parachute, moving it up and down to the pulse. “If everyone listens well we will put some toys on top.” Place one soft toy or finger puppet on top and sing:
One toy on the pirate ship. Boing, boing, boing, boing. One toy on the pirate ship. Boing, boing, boing.
Add a second toy on top and sing “Two toys...” Repeat for up to ten toys. Then place as many soft toys and finger puppets as you have (up to about 20) on top and skip to singing “Lots of toys on the pirate ship etc.”. Don’t worry if they fall off. They always do!
8. MUSICAL STATUES (with instruments): ‘Shake It Off’ performed by Taylor Swift
a) Ask the children if they know the game Musical Statues. Tell them that they’re going to play a game a little bit like Musical Statues and that if they can beat you to win, you will give them all a Haribo
treat.
b) Explain that they are going to be pirates and Tinker Bell fairies and you are going to give them each
some musical treasure (an egg shaker).
c) When the music plays they must march their musical treasures to the pirate ship (demonstrate as you
tell them). When the music stops, the children must freeze and be really still and quiet (demonstrate freezing) so that Captain Hook can’t hear them and steal their treasures. “If everyone is really quiet and still when the music stops, you will all win a Haribo treat.”
d) “I am going to turn into Captain Hook every time the music stops.”
e) Give each child some musical treasure.
f) Play ‘Shake It Off’ and the children march around the room and shake their musical treasures.
g) Pause the music and pretend to be Captain Hook. The children freeze. You get grumpy because
they’ve managed to escape you. “I’ll get you next time!” Try to be as silly as you can to make the
children laugh.
h) Repeat several times until you confess that the pirates and Tinker Bell fairies have beaten you and
delivered the musical treasures to the pirate ship. You cry and say “I want my mummy!”
i) Walk away and when you turn back you are no longer Captain Hook. Tell the children that you’ve turned back into a pirate/fairy, congratulate them and tell them you will give them their Haribo prize
before you go home.
9. ACTION SONG OR POEM: ‘Sleeping Fairies and Pirates’ (sung to the traditional tune of ‘Sleeping Bunnies’)
“Who knows the sleeping bunnies song (the children will already know the song and how to play the game)? Well I’m going to teach you how fairies and pirates play ‘Sleeping Bunnies’. We’re all going to be fairies and go to sleep and when we wake up, we are going to fly around the room.”
Verse:
See the fairies sleeping, (the children lie down, pretending to sleep) Till it's nearly noon.
Shall we wake them,
