Lesson Plan
1. Warm-up: ‘Shake Your Sillies Out’ performed by The Wiggles See summer lesson one. Make sure to use lots of energy!
* Running time approx. 2 mins.
2. Stretching and curling: Moody Cat See summer lesson one.
* Running time approx. 3 mins.
3. Travel to Danceland: ‘Sleeping Beauty Waltz’ written by Tchaikovsky & performed by Czecho-Slovak State Philharmonic Orchestra
Play the track and the children fly to Danceland like butterflies with scarves as wings as in previous weeks. When you call “gale force winds” they spin around and say “Ahh”. You call “freeze!” and tell them to fly like butterflies again. Repeat several times. Gradually turn down the music when you are ready to finish and congratulate the children on arriving at Danceland.
* Running time approx. 4 mins.
4. Introduce the theme: ‘Let’s Make a Circle’ written by Anne Porter Without speaking, get the children into a circle by singing ‘Let’s Make a Circle’ as in summer lesson one.
“Today’s lesson is going to be all about nursery rhymes.” Ask a few volunteers to name a nursery rhyme then say it all together with actions. If you don’t know any actions you can make some up. If you don’t know the nursery rhyme, ask the child if they’d like to stand up and perform it as a solo.
* Running time approx. 3 mins.
5. Fine motor skills: ‘This Little Piggy’ (traditional)
Click activity name to open YouTube video link.
Reveal ‘This Little Piggy’ laminate and ask the children to guess the nursery rhyme. Perform the rhyme four times using the movements shown in the video (making sure to alternate hands each time). Encourage the children to find a friend to tickle at the end of the last line.
This little piggy went to market, This little piggy stayed home, This little piggy had roast beef, This little piggy had none.
And this little piggy went “wee, wee, wee” all the way home!
* Running time approx. 2 mins.
