Joanna Latham - Ergonomist - Biography
Joanna has been involved in the health and wellbeing industry for over 10 years since gaining a post-graduate BSc degree in Human Kinetics and Ergonomics and a BA degree in Psychology in South Africa.
With a passion for travel, she pursued a career as a lifestylist on cruise ships, leading the wellbeing programme with a focus on prevention or treatment of injury, illness and stress; through using the biopsychosocial approach.
Following her move to the UK she worked as a rehabilitation case manager, assisting in client recovery through:
◆ Identifying physical rehabilitation needs and providing early treatment intervention to enable maximal recovery. ◆ Evaluating all aspects of the individual’s wellbeing by using an enhanced focus on the bio-psychosocial model. ◆Ensuring focus on self-education and motivation to encourage an individual to fully understand their injury or
illness.
◆ Interaction with physiotherapists, surgical consultants and insurance companies; by telephone and email on a daily
basis.
From this, she realised the potential and the need for injury prevention and treatment in the workplace through safe working practices and her move into the ergonomic industry allowed her to pursue this mindset, working initially as a DSE assessor and then expanding into other industries:
◆Providing in-depth remedial and basic compliance ergonomic assessments for clients in various settings,
predominantly in office environments and factories.
◆ Giving recommendations for ergonomic equipment as required and constructing full ergonomic reports.
◆ Advising clients on HSE legislation and compliance within UK law.
