D3.3 Car Parking and Pedestrian Access
Parking spaces in new car parks should be set out
as 2.5 x 5.0m standard bays. Accessible, family
or motorcycle parking should be designed to
regulatory guidance. Adjustments to existing
sites can follow the precedent set. Where any
significant changes are proposed to a car park,
these must be verified via swept path analysis
from a highways engineer.
Consideration must be given to safe pedestrian
access from the site entrance and from all
parking spaces to the restaurant entrance.
Footpaths should be designed and protected
complying with Building Regulations or The
Scottish Technical Handbooks. The overhang
of cars (and vans) must be accommodated
where parking and footpaths abut.
Specific designated parking spaces should
be signed appropriately such as; accessible
spaces, grill order parking and parent and child
spaces. Parent and child spaces should be
retained where available but not introduced
onto new sites.
