“Many times, a dog will come to us from dire circum-
stances and will need help not only in trusting a human
companion, but also in understanding the fundamentals
of social interaction,” says Mark Phillips, EASEL shelter
operations director. “We employ training techniques to

but also to foster a healthy relationship with its future
