Because of fasting and the tedious journey the preachers trembled with weakness; though their appearance startled the elders they still said, "We demand that you forsake Jesus."
The brethren realized they had walked into a trap,
but Jesus did not fail. A strong anointing came on them and
they declared the Gospel to the elders, one by one. The elders angrily grabbed Aeir guns and the preachers turned to
flee. When the first man shot at them, the bullet exploded in
the gun barrel. Five more men lifted their guns and tried to
shoot, but none of the guns would fire. The preachers
escaped. After walking some distance, feeling weary and
weak, they lay down to rest on top of a hill. When a gazelle
running from a monkey came and stood in their midst, they killed and cooked it. Strengthened by the meat, they easily
made the rest of the journey in safety; however, the
persecution did not slack.
The angel of the Lord smote the family of the man
who led this conspiracy and attempted to kill the forty
preachers. As his wife and children hung between death and life, he went to a wizard for help. The wizard told him, "Your family has been smitten by God, and if you don't
apologize to the people you have persecuted and tried to kil,
your family will die."
The wizard's words frightened him very much and
he could not believe the brethren would trust and accept him, but the Lord gave him courage. He got on his horse and
galloped to see Brother Yoseph and the other brethren. Falling at their feet with humble apologies he begged them to please go home with him and pray for his family. Without
suspicion or doubt, several of the preachers went with him to his home and prayed, and the Lord instantly healed all of
them. In gratitude the man gave his farm for the construction 87
