really gotten to him, but soon while swimming, he realized that his plan
wasn’t working as he couldn’t seem to push past the currents so he returned.
After he got back to the shore, he saw a white bear. It stood still, a few feet
away from him. He tried to scare the bear away, but the bear just stood still,
with no reaction. Everyone had always feared him, whether it was a human
or an animal. So, seeing how the bear hadn’t feared him, Cole's temper grew
and he went to attack the bear head-on; But oh how the tables turned. The
bear felt threatened, so to protect himself, he attacked Cole back. Cole got
mauled by the bear. He was barely holding on for dear life. With multiple
broken ribs, a broken pelvis, and a barely functioning right arm, he finally
realized how much life had to offer and how he was just taking it all for
granted.
Cole realized how much damage he had done and decided that he actually
wanted to live. He fought for his life, hardly managing. He had to feed on
worms, bugs, mice, and other insects to battle hunger and he had to drink
rainwater to clear his thirst. But luckily, he was found by Garvey and Edwin
and was taken to a hospital immediately.
From reading all this, in my honest opinion, I think that Cole failed his
banishment. He was privileged enough to get such a great chance to redeem
himself, but he took advantage of it and broke his contract. He failed
banishment by his ruthless actions. The banishment was supposed to help him
realize his mistakes and how he should learn from them, and how there are
always consequences for committing crimes. I understand that Cole has had
a lot of trauma in the past. Cole’s actions are his responsibility. So I believe
that he should’ve thought twice before doing such things. However,
banishment surely did not fail Cole because he underwent some changes
after the mauling incident. Therefore, in conclusion, I think Cole failed
banishment but banishment did not fail him.
