Annapurna Base camp is a base camp of one of the most beautiful and
aesthetic mountain ranges in Nepal. The camp is almost 4,500 metres above
sea level and is located in province 3(Gandaki). The climate here is extremely
frigid and the average temperature ranges below 10 to 0 degrees. The location
is accessible by a 5 days long journey of trekking from Pokhara. Such treks are
often closed during the winter season or mainly in early December due to bad
weather. For the people who don't want to walk or do such a tiresome journey,
the company also provides helicopters which only take about 15 minutes to
reach the base camp. The suggested time to visit the foothills of the
Himalayas is from March to October excluding July and August.
The major ethnic groups in this district are Sherpas, Dolpas, Lopas,
Baragaonlis and Manangis. Sherpas are famous around the world for their
bravery as well as Their exceptional and experienced skills in mountaineering.
They are fun-loving and will provide you with great hospitality and care.
The cultural heritage here is diversified with many different groups, especially
the Buddhists and the Hindus. Here, both the Tibetan and Hindu culture
flourishes, and as a result, the Himalayan region, specifically in the Annapurna
range has a mixed cultural identity. The important aspects of the cultural
heritage are the pujas done by the community during the major festivals. The
mysterious mythical animal “Yeti” is considered one of the great symbols or
representations of this place.
There are several statues and temples of both Hindu and Buddhist cultures in
the Annapurna base camp. The mesmerising view of the mountains with the
essence of both diversified and rich culture is what makes this place a tourist
attraction.
