P R E FA C EJung Chiou, HwangDirector General, DOIT, MOEAOn behalf of the Principal Sponsor DOIT (Department of Industrial Technology, MOEA, R.O.C.), I request the pleasure of your presence at the 10th IBDC Award Ceremony on th Wednesday, March the 8 at the Taipei World Trade Center Exhibition Hall.Taiwan is a leading center for bicycle design and innovation. Not only having praiseworthily quality, Taiwan-made bicycle products are competitive on price. This superiority has turned Taiwan-made bicycles into favorites throughout the world, especially in leading consumer markets such as the European Union, United States and of innovation for global bicycle industry. Thus we initiated the plan to hold a bicycle design competition in 1996. The first such competition was the \It was followed by the \were welcomed with great enthusiasm by Korean and Japanese participants as well as by those from Taiwan, and so from the third year on, the competition became a global one. It is very significant that this incubator of bicycle innovation is headquartered in Taiwan and is supported by the Cycling & Health Tech Industry R&D Center. The IBDC is creating a channel of communication among bicycle designers, manufacturers and aficionados from all over the world. It stimulates innovation through the exchange of concept and culture, and furthermore it explores what novelty products the young generation is longing for. To myself, this is the 10th time to attend the Award Ceremony of the IBDC. I sincerely offer my congratulations to this year's award winners, and very much appreciate the long-standing efforts that the organizer CHC has made. I further wish to express my hope that this meaningful event will continue to grow on a wider basis in the future.Cycling & Health Tech Industry R&D Center was established in June 1992. To face the rapidly changing international economic environment and to help the domestic bicycle industry for integrating multiple purposes with further development, we extended our operating scope to the exercise equipment field in 2000 and to the rehabilitation equipment field in 2002. Our center started to hold the bicycle design competition since 1996. It is a great honored for us to see this annual event be welcomed with great enthusiasm by globalparticipants from more than 50 countries each year. We are glad to see participation of expert designers from local as well as overseas presented designs manifesting a wide array of cultural characteristics, which turned this competition into a forum for world-class professional exchange. It gives all the designers the opportunity to view distinguished works by their peers from around the world, and providing new stimulus to the international bicycle and design industries. I would like to take this opportunity to express my appreciation to the principal sponsor-DOIT that made this event possible. Special thanks are in order at this time to those sponsors-the domestic bicycle manufacturers for the patronage. Also there are many thanks to the Jay Townley & Associates, LLC & National Bicycle Dealers Association, and the supporters-CETRA, CIDA and TBEA for the long-term support. Last but not least, we sincerely appreciate the efforts of all the international jurors from past to future.
