The features of creation in the 10th IBDCI B D C NE W SthThe International bicycle design competition has come to its 10 anniversary. Looking at this year's trend from designer's perspective, apart from adopting new styles with new functions and new materials, many more design concepts has been filled into this traditional product in transportation; The product of 3C- Carrier style, and Scenario style. Moreover, designer also combined the elements of the public environment onto their designs.This year's product has a few principal characteristic:1. %u301dScenario Style%u301e uses its appearance to allow product to communicate with its user directly. Designers deliberately want their messages to be communicated to their end-user through the products themselves without any forms of explanation. Like this year's %u301d Dream-wing%u301e has adopted the horse-riding concept, through its pedals and non-mechanical components to steer. It suggested the product has broken the traditional development boundary and answered the demands of daily life experiences and knowledge.2. The %u301dCarrier Style%u301eapproach has been found in many 3C or trend oriented products such as mobile phone, I-pod, mp3 products. Two years ago, the style has been first apply to bicycle design and this year, we can see a more mature interesting development on the application of the concept. In the past, we may have to accept the constraint on materials available. But now with the wide usage of the new combined-materials, we can never rule out the possibilities that the future transportation cannot be carried freely like accessories. (This year's entries: Bikepack, Box portable folding bicycle.)3. The %u301dIntimate design%u301e is an approach which combines people with objects and environments. This kind of design approach has been rarely seen in bicycle development in the past, but because of the raising awareness of environment in relation to life-style; there are raises in demand on products which can be blended into our environment, this concept has been rarely explored in the past. This year's entry : New City bike is in this category.4. The %u301d Integrated design%u301e is a concept that targets different type of people who share a common product, e.g. wheelchair users included both the disables and the caterers. The application of this concept can be frequently seen in this year competition. This concept involved a review and integration of the ideas of shared usage in terms of resources on individual designs. It can enhance the product's usage and make the product even more convincing to the public user.The International bicycle design competition is at its 10th anniversary, every year can be constantly innovative and grown with external stimulation and internal reviews. This allows the design of bicycle industry to break away from the traditional concepts of being mechanically driven.
