Counting and filling prescriptions daily.
1. It’s not the action of counting and filing prescriptions daily that
really matters here but more the impact of handling your scripts with
attention to detail. And that attention to detail is more likely to happen
if you carry out this task daily. What I am getting at here is Wrong
Group Movements.
Every prescription that slips through the net without a signature on the reverse where
an exemption declaration is required, will cost you £9.90 per item. This is avoidable loss
and is simply a result of poor prescription management. It has massive financial impact
if there are a number of such omissions. I have spoken to practices who have had north
of 500 such omissions a month and this will have been costing them £5K a month –
that’s £60K a year! I do hope you are checking your Wrong Group Movement Report
each month to see how your dispensers are faring here?
If you haven’t seen your Wrong Group Movement report, then can I suggest you go and
look right now. You will need access to the PCSE portal so perhaps the practice manager
will need to print the report off for you.
The report will tell you how many prescriptions have been moved from exempt to paid
and in line this will tell you how much loss your poor management of prescriptions is
costing the dispensary. It should be zero however the odd script might slip through but
no more than one or two a month is acceptable.
Opps, 8 in the practice below – that’s nearly £100 loss.
