In each case here the Drug Tariff price will have clawback deducted so even in the omeprazole
example there will be a loss of 11.18% which is over £1.50.
Your resolution here is to always try twice to obtain a generic line from your first-line
wholesaler as often an item that is OOS in the morning could be back into stock later in the
day. When you do need to obtain a generic from another wholesaler to fill a prescription that
can’t wait, order just the ONE pack, not 40!! One prescription loss is manageable but not 40
scripts worth please.
Use a Dispensing Appliance Contractor (DAC)
3. Appliances are usually loss makers as they are often branded items and
they rarely carry a manufacturers discount. You can lose the loss if you
use a DAC to dispense these prescriptions instead. Are you using a DAC
for ALL your appliance supplies? If not the resolution 3 is to find a way of
doing just that.
All items dispensed by the DAC
will give you a profit of at least
£3.40 (NuCare data but other
DACs should be similar – please
check) which given that your
max dispensing fee is currently
just under £2.35, is a complete
no brainer.
I hope these three resolutions
will make your 2025 more profitable. As they say – look after the pennies….
