equilibrium gets out of balance that problems
begin to surface and if those issues are not
tackled at an early stage, the consequences are
magnified with each passing year. Over a period
of time, I can fully understand how the continual
spectre of finances being removed from the
system later drives a behaviour of caution and
concern from pharmacy owners. Ideally what
I would want to see is the respective funding
mechanisms recognise the tripartite function I
describe above, be fully considered as an output
of negotiations and allow the network to look
to a bright future that embraces and includes
independent prescribing.
In our May edition of Numark Membership
magazine, as above I have highlighted what I
think the current Category M reimbursement
regime is doing to the community pharmacy
network i.e. it is causing us to look back all the
time when we need the confidence to look
ahead. Building on this theme, we also have
part two of the Category M guide prepared by
colleagues at Community Pharmacy England.
We have also included an article highlighting the
successful launch and community pharmacy
engagement with Pharmacy First in England. I’d
like to reassure colleagues in Northern Ireland,
Scotland and Wales that I know you were really
“First” with this type of initiative!
Alongside this, we have guidance on vaccination
training and ordering your flu vaccines for
the upcoming influenza season, a look at the
generics market and how it is affecting our
members, the launch of Lilly’s Mounjaro, as well
as insights into our newly launched services
and manufacturer offers for our community
pharmacy Numark partners.
I hope you enjoy this month’s
magazine and I hope to see you at
next month’s Numark conference.
