Choosing the right fridge
for your pharmacy

When storing cold chain medicines, it's important
to use a specialist medical fridge. In larger
organisations, walk-in cold stores may be used, and
the same basic principles apply. It's best to avoid
domestic fridges, as they aren't suitable for medicine
storage in healthcare settings.
Medicines fridges are designed with features like fan-
assisted cooling and don’t include ice compartments
or salad drawers, helping maintain a consistent

A lot of pharmacy fridges feature touch screen
displays, and range from wall mounted, bench top,
solid or glass door fronted and are calibrated and
come with a calibration certificate.
Things to think about
When choosing a fridge, consider how much medicine
you’ll need to store in it and where is it going to go
in the pharmacy. Make sure it's large enough to hold
your stock whilst still allowing good air circulation.
