Out and
about with
the Numark Rugeley
Chairman
It was great to recently spend time with our
Numark members, the Northwood Group and see
their innovation in practice.
The day began with Managing Director, Harvey
Northwood, and the team at his group assembly
hub. Here I was able to see firsthand the preparing
of labelled medicines to be returned to the spoke
pharmacies where the care element of medicines
supply, essentially, still takes place.
This purpose-built facility is housed in “The Bank
of Wellbeing” where a range of private services,
including blood tests, are offered by a trained
phlebotomist, Lucy, and a prescribing pharmacist,
Connor, delivers supporting health interventions
that require prescribed medicines.
I then popped in to see Carol and the team at
Whitehouse Pharmacy, Penkridge to hear about
the life saving work that team had undertook
when patients fell unwell. In the first incident,
a defibrillator was urgently accessed to assist
a patient in cardiac arrest. In two subsequent
emergencies, adrenaline pens were administered to
patients experiencing severe anaphylactic shock
- one of whom required two pens as advised by
paramedics assisting on the phone. To further show
the relationship that Carol and the Whitehouse
Pharmacy team have with their patients, the
photograph was taken by one of them.
I rounded the day off in Staffordshire with a visit
to Brereton Pharmacy, Rugeley to talk all things
prescribing, pharmacy contract funding and the
future of community pharmacy practice with Will
Northwood and his team. Big thanks to everybody
for making me so welcome and for your continued
support to Numark. With your passion and our
expertise, together we can improve health.
