Appendix B - designated
safeguarding lead (DSL)
We have a dedicated person to take overarching
responsibility for safeguarding matters throughout
the organisation.
Designated safeguarding leads should:
• Develop a culture and understanding of
safeguarding throughout the organisation.
• Support other professionals to recognise and
respond to the needs of children and adults at
risk for whom we have a safeguarding concern.
• Promote safe recruitment practices for
individuals whom the organisation will permit to
work regularly with children, including obtaining
a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check
when required.
• Ensure that colleagues have the appropriate
level of supervision and support, including
undertaking safeguarding training.
• Ensure that colleagues are competent to carry
out their responsibilities for safeguarding and
creating an environment where staff feel able to
raise concerns and feel supported when they do.
• Act as a source of advice on all safeguarding
matters and seek further advice and guidance
from local statutory agencies as and when
required.
• Ensure that a record is kept of any safeguarding
concerns.
• Conduct regular audit activity to ensure the
organisation is working in line with current
practice.
