Tier 3 and Tier 4: The PCS envisions further expansion with Tier 3
focusing on the ongoing monitoring and management of repeat long-
acting reversible contraceptives (LARCs), excluding intrauterine systems
(IUS) and intrauterine devices (IUD). Tier 4 allows pharmacies to initiate
LARCs, offering a comprehensive range of contraceptive options.

                  Financial incentives and support

The introduction of advanced services came with a
structured remuneration system. Pharmacies enrolling in
the PCS became eligible for setup payments totaling £900
per pharmacy premises. This amount was disbursed in
instalments, with £400 issued upon signing up through the
NHS Business Services Authority (NHSBSA) MYS portal.

Subsequent payments of £250 each were made after claiming the
first 5 consultations and an additional 5 consultations, respectively.
Pharmacies engaging in PCS consultations received £18 for each
completed consultation, providing financial incentives for active
participation, and ensuring a high standard of care for patients
                  seeking contraceptive advice and support.

                  Timely transition for Optimal Care

Pharmacies signing up through the NHSBSA MYS portal after
December 1 , 2023, were obligated to provide the extended service,
                               st
covering both Tier 1 and Tier 2. Pre-existing pharmacies were allowed
to continue providing the Tier 1 service alone but were encouraged
to transition within a three-month period to offer the extended
service, aligning with the evolving landscape of contraceptive care.
                  Community support and footfall boost

These advancements not only elevate the quality of contraceptive
care but also present a valuable opportunity for pharmacies to
support their local communities. By actively participating in the
expanded services, pharmacies can attract new footfall, positioning
themselves as comprehensive healthcare providers within their
                  communities.
