The important period of what is called an ‘open script’ opportunity, was the period from Eliquis
coming off patent in June ’22 and the end of ’23 when the generic prices started to race to the
bottom as more manufacturers produced the generic apixaban.

In this situation, the quicker you recognise the fact that there is a generic Apixaban available,
and you get your prescriptions written as the generic then the greater the share of the reward
you will gain. If you drag your feet and continue to prescribe and supply the brand then the
opportunity is lost. Worse still would be if you didn’t realise the generic price was dropping
below the brand price of Eliquis and you keep supplying the brand on generically written
              prescriptions. Ouch!!
To check if drugs are due to come off patent in the UK, you could refer to resources such as the
UK intellectual Property Office (IPO) or the Pharmaceutical Price Regulation Scheme (PPRS)
or market research companies such as IQVIA but in all honesty if you want to understand
what opportunities are coming up, then simply make sure you are asking your PSUK account
manager EVERY MONTH. You just can’t afford to miss these gems.

So what opportunities are there right now? Well, testosterone and other DOACs should
already be on your radar. They are potentially great money earners as the Drug Tariff prices
are high and the generic prices should hopefully fall. (tables below @ July ’24)
