During my visits across the UK alongside the account managers, I continually hear
dispensary staff highlighting that the generic price on the portal can be higher than the
Drug Tariff and other wholesaler portals. If there is one thing that you take away from
today’s article, it is that the generic price you see on our portal is not the net price that you
will pay for that product – it is the invoice price before your APM rebate and loyalty bonus is
applied.
It is important that dispensary staff understand how APM works - a lack in understanding of
this can drive some purchasing decisions that can really hurt the dispensaries profit. I have
used the screenshot of Citalopram 10mg to demonstrate how simply looking at the screen
price can cause you to lose money. You can see below that the KEYS product has an Invoice
price of £1.89 versus a Drug Tariff price of £0.85, however, the actual net price after your
APM rebate for that line was £0.38, that’s a rebate of £1.51 on each pack.

Please note, that we will always substitute a higher priced generic to the KEYS product
regardless of what you select on screen, so a KEYS product would have been sent in place of
the Teva brand in the Citalopram example below. We acknowledge that the multiple options
for one strength can be confusing and are looking at ways that we only list the KEYS product.
