Unaccompanied children are especially
unlikely to receive asylum in Mexico.
On average 85-95% of unaccompanied
children detained are deported.
INM employs child protection officers (OPIs) to
screen unaccompanied minors for protection
needs and ‘conduct best interest assessments.’
However 70% of unaccompanied boys and
80% of the girls held in detention have not
met with OPIs.
