543 Clive Thomas SAWYER (1959- ) (Inducted -.10.1993; left in 1995/96.) General accountancy
practice, Taxation. Partner with accountants Worton Rock & Associates, Vicar Street, Dudley,
but his home was at Minsterley on the Welsh borders of Shropshire. Soon after leaving the club
he severed his links with Dudley and moved to Bishops Castle, Shropshire where he became
involved as a director of several local businesses. He established his own accountancy practice
Clive Sawyer & Associates Limited in 2002 and in 2009 acquired a small taxation consultancy in
the town when its proprietor retired. He has subsequently moved just a few miles across the
border to Abermule near Montgomery, and continues to be a director of numerous companies.
He was born, grew up and married in Maidstone, Kent.
544 Captain Alan PRICE (1948? - ) (Inducted 11.3.1996; left in early 1998 on being posted to
Droitwich.) Salvation Army Officer (Minister). Officer in charge of Dudley
Corps, jointly with his wife Colleen. He was born in Paignton, Devon but his
first commission as a Salvation Army officer was in Windsor, Nova Scotia
from 1983. He then served in Winnipeg, Manitoba (1988-1991) and
Belleville, Ontario (1991-1995) before coming to Dudley. (He used to tell
stories of bears wandering through the streets of his town, which must
have been from his time in Manitoba.) From Dudley he took charge of the
Droitwich corps in 1998 but in 2002 he and his wife returned to Canada,
promoted to the rank of Major. They were commanding officers of the
Salvation Army Meadowlands Corps at Hamilton, Ontario until 2008 and then Peterborough
Temple Corps at Peterborough, Ontario. They retired in 2013 after 30 years as officers.
545 Jeffrey MOORE (1941- ) (Inducted 11.3.1996; left in 1997/98.) Associations, Health. Manager
of the charity Action Heart, Wellington Road, Dudley. He was previously with the Prudential
Insurance Society and took on Action Heart after retiring from the Pru. He was originally from
Wednesbury, lived for a time in Wolverhampton, and latterly in Halesowen.
546 Dennis Benjamin WALKER (1940- ) (Inducted 18.3.1996; President 2005-
06; still a member at 2022.) Automobile, parts manufacturing. Production
Engineering Manager at Brühl (UK) Ltd’s Bean’s Foundries, Tipton,
manufacturers of large diesel engines for the bus and truck industries and
iron castings for the automotive industry. After 44 years with Bean’s
Foundries he retired in 2002. Dennis was born and has lived in Dudley all
his life. He attended St James’s Infant School (now re-erected at the Black
Country Living Museum), Jesson’s Junior School and Park Secondary School
for Boys before starting work in 1956 as an Apprentice Pattern Maker with
Dudley Master Pattern Making Company. While there he started part time studies at Dudley
Technical College. In 1958 he moved to Bean’s Foundries at Tipton as a qualified Foundry
Pattern Maker. Thereafter he progressed to Production Development Engineer (1962), Assistant
Production Engineering Manager (1969), Production Engineering Manager (1970), and Process
Engineering Manager (1974). Bean’s and West Yorkshire Foundries were acquired by the
German company Brühl in 1987 when his position reverted to Production Engineering Manager.
Dennis is an active member of St James the Great church, Eve Hill, Dudley: PCC Member, Church
Treasurer for 9 years, and a chorister. He is also a member of Dudley Choral Society, has served
on the Committee of Dudley Festival of Music, Drama and Dance from 2002, and was formerly
a Trustee and Treasurer of Dudley International Piano Competition. A bell ringer since 2002 he
currently rings at St Mary’s Church, Kingswinford. He has been a Qualified Youth Leader since
1966.
