42 Eggs and Ashes
Inspire those who govern to prioritise clean water:
spending a little to save many lives.
Open the showers of heaven to soften barren land.
Shower us with your love that softens hardened hearts.
Richard Moeketsi Thito
A water blessing
May clean, clear water bless us,
wellspring or waterfall,
life in abundance
flowing, cleansing, refreshing.
May we use wisely
God’s gift of water
and cherish each drop;
bring life to Earth’s deserts
Jesus, pour your water,
greening and satisfying,
on the dry dustiness
of the deserts within us.
Holy Spirit, flow through us;
revive our faithfulness,
cleanse our sinfulness,
fill us with prayerfulness.
Chris Polhill
Water stories and prayers
In the mid-nineteenth century, the more affluent citizens of Glasgow became
aware that the waterborne diseases that resulted when the poor took buckets of
water from the polluted Clyde did not stop at their gates. By 1859 they had found
the remedy – water piped from Loch Katrine. It reached the homes of rich and
poor with transforming effect. Water pipes were like the hands of Christ, stretched
over intervening miles to provide health.
