SACERS was developed for use with children aged between five and 12 years. It addresses diversity through cultural awareness. It also assesses ethnic, linguistic, gender role, cultural, and racial diversity of toys, books, and pictorial materials. It also assesses encouragement of acceptance and understanding of children with differences as modelled by staff. Provisions for children with special needs are also considered in the scale. The key constructs and scoring of measure are categorised into seven subscales. The Likert-scale score is from one (inadequate) to seven (excellent).
