9.2.2 Safety
There are a few things to keep in mind when preparing outdoor spaces for children. The first thing to consider is the childrenÊs safety. You should ask yourself if there is anything that can hurt the child when creating an outdoor space for children. Outdoor space like playground, for instance, is a fun place where children can explore, move and play. However, the space can be dangerous if the area is not properly designed or maintained. Accidents happen for many reasons, but you can prevent them. The following tips can help you keep childrenÊs outdoor space safe.
(a) Fencing and Barriers
The outdoor play area should be closed off with fencing or natural barriers. Fences and barriers not only keep people in and out, but also keep children from hazards and prevent animals from entering the area. Four, five or six feet high fencing is necessary depending on the context of the centre or playing area. Any exit or gate leading to the outside area should be properly locked.
