Play Area
ChildrenÊs outdoor play area should be free of hazards and designed such that adults can supervise the children all the time. Playground should be designed in such a way that teachers and staff can observe the children easily. Appropriate playground surface lowers the risk of injury when children plunge or tumble. Thus, a safe play area for children should have the following criteria:
(i) The ground should be designed with soft surfing or impact absorbing surface;
(ii) The surface has to be free of broken glass, rocks or trash;
(iii) The area should be cleared of anything that may cause children to trip and fall;
(iv) The height of swings, slides or other equipment must be at a safe distance from the ground; and
(v) Elevated platforms should have hand rails.
