“I’m just different,” said Carl.
“Well, I guess that makes the two of us then,” said Tess,
“because I love to swim in the ocean.”
They were both silent for a moment, and then Tess said,
“I think I’ll stay here for the night. It’s getting late. Do you mind?”
“Not in the least,” said Carl. “I would love your company.”
The sun set, the moon rose, and Carl and Tess both slept.
Carl dreamed about all of his new friends. He dreamed about the
beach, the ocean, and the sky. And in the morning, when Carl
awoke, Tess was already gone, but it wasn’t long before his new
friends began stopping by to visit.
