Supplementary Subject Learning Area of Mathematics
Secondary 3 Semester 1 Time 40 Periods 1 Credit
Students will add, subtract, multiply and divide directed numbers, estimate square roots and cube
roots ,use indices and the index laws for multiplication and division of positive integer powers, multiply and
divide whole numbers and decimals by 10 to the power of any positive or negative integer, multiply by
decimals, divide by decimals, round numbers to a given number of decimal places or significant figures, use
the order of operations, consolidate writing a fraction in its simplest form, add, subtract, multiply and divide
fractions, solve word problems mentally, recognise when fractions or percentages are needed to compare
different quantities, solve problems involving percentage changes, compare two ratios, recognise when two
quantities are directly proportional; solve problems involving proportionality, calculate the interior or
exterior angle of any regular polygon, solve problems using properties of angles, of parallel and intersecting
lines, and of triangles, other polygons and circles, draw 3D shapes, analyse 3D shapes through plans and
elevations, identify reflection symmetry in 3D shapes, recognise and use spatial relationships in two
dimensions and three dimensions, construct the perpendicular from a point to a line and the perpendicular
from a point on a line, inscribe squares, equilateral triangles, and regular hexagons and octagons , know and
use Pythagoras’ theorem to solve two-dimensional problems, tessellate triangles and quadrilaterals and
relate to angle sums and half-turn rotations , solve problems involving translations, rotations, reflections
and enlargements, transform 2D shapes by combinations of rotations, reflections and translations, use
bearings to solve problems involving distance and direction, make and use scale drawings and interpret
maps, solve problems involving measurements, average speed, use compound measures to make
comparisons in real-life contexts, convert between metric units of area and volume, know hectares (ha),
convert between hectares and square metres, solve problems involving the circumference and area of
circles, calculate lengths, surface areas and volumes in right-angled prisms and cylinders, construct tables of
values and plot the graphs of linear functions, rearranging the equation into the form y = mx + c, find the
approximate solutions of a simple pair of simultaneous linear equations, construct functions arising from
real-life problems, solve problems involving direct proportion, generate terms of a sequence using term-to-
term and position-to-term rules, derive an expression to describe the nth term of an arithmetic sequence,
find the inverse of a linear function. Compare and understand how to use this skill in daily life and develop
thinking skills in the 21st century.
This subject uses knowledge and understanding creating process , working process , analysis
process, grouping process and problem solving process in teaching and studying.
The knowledge and the processes are designed to develop the students’ desirable characteristics
which are love of nation, religion and king, Honesty and integrity, Self-discipline, Avidity for learning,
Observance of principles of Sufficiency Economy Philosophy in one’s way life, Dedication and commitment
to work, Cherishing Thai-ness, Public-mindedness and Health and aesthetic images.
