                                   Applications of Non-aqueous Titrations

                                                Acidimetry Alkalimetry

Samples: Basic drugs such as: Acidic drugs such as:

                                      Ephedrine, Adrenaline, Nalidixic acid, Flurouracil.

                                      Caffeine, Acyclovir.

Solvent: Protogenic solvents such as: Protophilic solvents such

                                      glacial acetic acid as: DMF

Titrant: Perchloric acid HClO 4 Sodium methoxide.

                 Indicator: Crystal violet Thymol blue

(0.5% in glacial acetic acid) (0.5 % in methanol)

Color change from violet to pink to blue

                                      yellowish green.

End point detection in non-aqueous titrations

1- Visual indicators: e.g. crystal violet or thymol blue

2-Potentiometric titration: by apparatus called potentiometer or pH meter.
