So, you now know what qualification Qualification
options are, but, what are the levels? Levels explained:
There are not only different qualification options which Level 4:
your son / daughter can choose to take but there are LEVEL 4 QUALIFICATION
also different levels of qualifications. Degree, Foundation Degree,
HNC or HND, NVQ Level 4/5
These qualifications relate to how hard that qualification
is to complete. The higher the level, the harder the FULL LEVEL 3:
qualification will be to complete. MINIMUM 2 x A-LEVELS
NVQ Level 3, BTEC Awards,
In total, there are nine levels of qualifications. When they finish Certificates & Diplomas
school, it is important that they work to a level that best suits at Level 3, BTEC Extended
them, trying to achieve too much too soon is likely to make Diplomas, OCR Nationals,
it harder for them and de-motivate them from completing Cambridge Technicals Level 3
their studies. Once they have gained a certain level of
qualification, they can then move on to the next level. FULL LEVEL 2:
5 x GCSE’s A*-C OR GRADE 4-9
NVQ Level 2, BTEC First
Diploma, Functional Skills Level
TOP TIP: 2, OCR Nationals, Cambridge
Technicals Level 2
When deciding what level to study after Level 1:
year 11, make sure they consider what GCSE’s D-G
level they are currently working at, the NVQ Level 1, Introduction
requirements of the job they want to do Diploma, Certificate, Cache
and how long it will take them to complete Diploma, Skills for Working Life,
that level of qualification. Functional Skills Level 1, OCR
Nationals/Foundation
If they aren’t sure what the different levels
mean, here is a handy overview of the ENTRY LEVEL:
first 4 levels. They will begin to study one of 1, 2 or 3
these levels when they leave Year 11 and Entry Level Awards,
this overview will help them to understand Certificates and Diplomas,
