This webinar from the Smithsonian Center for Learning and Digital Access (SCLDA) and the National
Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC) will introduce the Smithsonian
Learning Lab, a new digital education platform which allows for customizable collections and critical
thinking engagement. In this session, participants will explore the Read Between the Brushstrokes
series from the NMAAHC which investigates the connection between visual art and history. Through
this Learning Lab series, visual and historical thinking skills come together to lead to a richer
understanding of the past. (Suggested for history and visual arts connections)

at the Smithsonian American Art Museum use artwork to engage students as critical thinkers,

on the Smithsonian Learning Lab that you can use immediately in your classroom. (Suggested for

How We See the Sun

This webinar from the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum will explore the Sun’s starring
role in our Solar System and our lives. People have depicted the Sun in artworks to show its power
and beauty. We can also use scientific instruments to study the Sun and learn about its features.
After learning about the Sun, students can make models or artworks that demonstrate their own
understanding of the Sun and its importance in their lives. (Suggested for PK – 6th grade visual arts
and science connections)
