Generic Name: Triamcinolone acetonide injection

Side effects/precautions:
Na retention, increase K and Ca excretion, hypertension, arrhythema, Thromboembolism, infection,
growth supression in children, psychiatric effects incl euphoria, psychosis, depression; convulsion;
elevated ICP; HPA axis suppression; muscle weakness, wasting; myopathy; osteoporosis; fracture;
rash; hives; impaired healing; local atrophy; aseptic necrosis of femoral, humeral heads;
hyperglycaemia; pancreatitis; cataract; central serous chorioretinopathy; blurred vision; glaucoma;
optic nerve damage; menstrual irregularity; peptic ulcer, haemorrhage, perforation; inj site reaction;
sterile abscess formation, arthropathy, hyper/ hypopigmentation (intra-articular, IM admin);
anaphylactoid reaction (rare); others, see full PI.
Interactions:
K depleting agents eg amphotericin (monitor for hypokalaemia). anticholinesterases, anticoagulants;
antidiabetics; isoniazid; ciclosporin; digoxin; estrogen; hepatic enzyme inducers eg barbiturates,
phenytoin, carbamazepine, rifampicin; growth hormone; ketoconazole; nondepolarising muscle
relaxants; NSAIDs esp aspirin (hypoprothrombinaemia); antidepressants; vaccines esp small pox; skin
tests.
Reasons for interactions:
Immunosuppressent, Na retention and k depletion.
