APPRECIATION

With His Grace I was able to complete the course of Ethnic Relations coursework successfully. First and
foremost, we would like to thank all of my helpers and group members for carrying out my course work
in a good condition. With the help of my classmates, who they willing to give co-operation to work
together as well as to finish our coursework smoothly and efficiently. On this occasion, we would also
like to thank my mentor, Dr Hj Isham Shah Bin Hassan. This is because he has explained our coursework
by outlining the examples about our project. In addition, he has able to explain project by showing
examples of videos prepared by our seniors, which make us to understand the project well. Finally, I
hope that we can pass on the true info and knowledge to our readers in the community.

INTRODUCTION

Malaysia is known as a country that has various religion and languages as well as the ethnic. The main
ethnic group within Malaysia comprise the Malays, Chinese and Indians, as well as there are many
others ethnic group which has smallest number, which speaks in other languages. Besides that, there
are other indigenous groups residing in East Malaysia like Iban, Dusun and Kadazan languages. In
Malaysia, the national language is Malay which is the mother tongue of majority Malay ethnic group.
The research of this project is located at the Negeri Sembilan, Polytechnic Port Dickson. Port Dickson
is the state where has the majority Malay ethnic group as well as the Chinese and Indians are the
second and third majority in Negeri Sembilan respectively. Among the characteristics of society are
group, culture, change and interaction. An important factor in determining ethnic harmony in our
country is how do people connect and cooperate in provoking one another? By all means, we do not
want ETNOSENTRISME - to believe or pride in their culture and ethnicity better than any other group
and RASISME, among the issues that are often raised and also provoke racial strife because of negative
views, thoughts and also beliefs. Theoretically, studying society is a necessity as humans live in society.
As such, people must be able to understand their way of life, their other cultures in order for
cooperation to be nurtured while addressing global issues such as pollution, technology, weapon race
and more.

BASIC CONCEPT OF ETHNIC RELATION

Society
Society means a group of people related to each other whether in the same community or different
community that practices certain culture and belief in their lives.

Ethnic
A group of people practiced a culture almost uniform such as traditions, clothing, language, economic,
etc. Ethnic also form a concept ethnicity and ethnocentrism.

RAS (puak)
Based on the collective characteristics such as physical or biological which based on the colour of skin,
eyes and hair. This is how the racism is form which the negative thoughts or beliefs given by social
group based on physical differences.
