Prejudice
Negative views from ethnic group but this hasn’t made to public because the facts are not clear,
accurate and enough. On the other hand, prejudice is strong and unchangeable when the strong facts
are proved.
Stereotypes
A conventional and oversimplified conception, opinion or image.
Discrimination
The negative views, thoughts and beliefs created by someone or a group of ethnic to the others.
Segregation
A practice of separating people of different races, schools, residence, transportation and public utilities
like Apartheid Policy in South Africa.
Accommodation
Defend own ethnic culture and respect other culture of other ethnic groups.
Acculturation
A process of acceptance of other cultural elements but not losing the own identity itself.
Amalgamation
Occurs when cultures or races mix to create a new kind of culture and this happens through mixed
marriage.
LANGUAGES IN MALAYSIA
Bahasa Melayu
Bahasa Melayu is the branch of the Austronesian (Malayo-Polynesian) language family, which
spoken as a native language in Malay Peninsula, Sumatra, Borneo and several areas in Malaysia.
Besides that, Malaysia also showed the closest relationship to most other languages of Sumatera such
as Minangkabau, Kerintji and Rejang and these are related to other Austronesian languages of
Sumatera, Borneo Java as well as to the Cham languages of Vietnam. The total number of speakers of
Standard Malay is about 18 million. The earliest Malay were found in southern Sumatra from 683-686
AD. Malay is an official language in Malaysia which known as Bahasa Melayu. The Malay language
usually spoken in Malaysia, other countries like Indonesia, Singapore, Brunei and Thailand. In Malaysia,
all local students are required learn Malay. There are 10 dialects in Malay language such as Bahasa
Malaysia, Kelantanese, Terengganuan, Kedahan, Sarawakian, Bajau, Negeri Sembilan Malay, Banjar,
Bruneian and Indonesian. In addition, there are indigenous languages which known as ‘bahasa asli’ in
Malaysia. The native tribes of East Malaysia have own languages which related to, but distinguishable
from Malay. As for the grammar of Bahasa Malaysia, there are words that borrowed from Arabic,
Sanskrit, Tamil, Persian, Portuguese, Dutch and some Chinese dialects. There are a few words like
scientific and technological terms, they will borrow English words as the Malay words.
