  Customers and Budding Fishmongers get
hands on at MFS Open Days
Seafood lovers and Master Fishmonger Standard candidates took the chance to learn from “the best”, at a series of open days held throughout Seafish’s Seafood Week.
The four open sessions, held by certified Master Fishmongers across the country, provided the chance to teach their customers how to fillet and prepare a range of seafood, attracting attention from local customers and press alike. Elaine Lorys, Master Fishmonger at W Stevenson & Sons, Newlyn, explained the enthusiastic responses she received, “we had 18 customers take part over 3 sessions with customers watching, wishing they had booked and asking for us to do more!”.
The days also gave candidates on the MFS scheme the chance to complete the practical component of their assessment in-store, with five fishmongers demonstrating their exceptional technical and knife skills, gaining accreditation across the Master, Advanced and Craft Fishmonger tiers. These candidates will now join an elite list of fishmongers to receive their award at a ceremony held at the historic Fishmongers’ Hall in London and join the register of certified fishmongers, featured and promoted by the MFS.
“I want to say that the competition and the venue was the best I have been on. I think it is important that the competition is public friendly for the seafood industry, the competitors and the sponsors. I hope we can see each other in Cardiff next year. Well Done!
