YR AIL XV
SECOND XV
Ymlaen Y Porthmyn!
Firstly, I would like to give a big thank you to our departing coach Marc de Marigny and team manager Dai “Book” Thomas, your efforts have been invaluable over the past two seasons and I, as well as others, are sad to see you go.
Last year was new ground
for the 2nd XV which saw us entered into the newly formed WRU Conference and a new challenge for all involved. Unfortunately we weren’t able to replicate the successes of the 1st or Youth XV’s and the season was a bit of a mixed bag.
We enjoyed some success on the road with two outstanding wins at Crymych and Newcastle Emlyn but frustrated ourselves at home which was pretty ironic as every away game was at least an hour and a half journey.
This season see’s us back into the Llanelli and District league with the added Scarlets Region
league with Ammanford, Crymych, Newcastle Emlyn and Whitland. We hope this will be the springboard we need to finally having the opportunity of entering into the National Leagues for season 2019/20.
We are ambitious, we are hopeful and we will keep trying, the setup we have for the Junior Drovers and at Youth level is outstanding and the credit for that goes to coaches and parents alike that give up their time to help out.
But, these young players that have come through our ranks who want to continue playing rugby for the Drovers at senior
level need a competitive environment to perform in, not every player can make it into the 1st XV and to have a 2nd XV competing in the National League alongside the likes of Llangadog and Llandeilo can only benefit all teams, we shall have to wait and see.
Finally, good luck to all of our sides this year, whether you’re the 1st XV or the Under 7s, we are all as important to the club as each other.
YMLAEN
Y PORTHMYN!
Celfyn Davies
2nd XV Captain, Llandovery RFC.
