To the east of Hereford City and adorning the Malvern Hills is the market town of Ledbury. Crammed with intriguing independent shops, eateries and galleries, the businesses are often family run and sometimes owned by those who visited, fell in love with the enchanting town and never left.
Oozing culture, famous for its landmark black and white buildings and streets, and brimming with creativity, Ledbury earnt its name from the River Leadon, which runs through this market town. Discover Ledbury by exploring its myriad of mews and side streets, literally every few yards along the long High Street and the Homend. Tuesdays and Saturdays see its weekly markets in the stunning Grade 1 listed, Market Hall, built by the King’s carpenter, John Abel in 1653
and located in the centre of town. The town’s shops are dominated by unique retailers, galleries, tasteful home, interiors, gift and fashion boutiques
and specialist foodie destinations, plus the odd high street favourite. The secret is to explore that little archway, stroll that lane and take your time to delve into every doorway. Tucked away in picturesque, cobbled and much photographed Church Lane, the medieval buildings include the atmospheric Heritage Museum, the mysterious Painted Room; its walls painted with frescoes by an unknown 16C artisan and Butchers Row House Folk Museum; The museum houses reproduction helmets and breastplates as worn in the Battle of Ledbury (1645), Victorian costumes
and folk curiosities.
