Goals for the rest of the season
We just need to put the performances in now. Winning is de nitely a habit, and if we can get a good run of results going it will give us the con dence we need to climb back up the table.
Occupation
In this edition we hear from our First team Captain, Ewan Williams. Ewan has played
for Brecon RFC through all the age group sides and Youth team. After a short spell away whilst at University and after a successful few seasons with Merthyr RFC where he was highly thought of as a gifted and dependable performer, whilst playing in the Championship, he has returned to his home team Club as Captain and is leading us from the front as we seek to establish our position in Division 1.
Firstly, where did the nickname ‘Swell’ come from?
It all started back in Ysgol-y-Bannau before I had lled out, when I was slightly top heavy. I’ve got Gari’s older brother, Gethin, to thank for that one!
You are well known for being pretty laid back are you managing to maintain that status as Captain of Brecon RFC this season?
I’d like to think so. There have been a couple of stressful moments so far, especially when dealing with a few referees, but overall it hasn’t been too bad. It helps having Ei on as vice captain though, he stresses enough for the both of us.
How are you nding Captaincy on and off the eld this season?
It’s been ok so far. Everyone I’ve spoken to has been very supportive, even though our position in the table isn’t good enough at the moment. Some of our performances have been disappointing. There have been several games where I feel we should have got a result, and haven’t. Hopefully the second half of the season will be more successful.
Anything you wish you could change to make the job easier?
It would be nice to be able to eld a full strength team every week. We’ve missed Pricey a lot this season, also Cam is ill or injured at least 9 months of the year. Many times we’ve had to play players out of position, or not 100% t, and I think that once we get some consistency going with selection our performances will bene t. Also stealing Osian back from Merthyr every now and again wouldn’t be a bad thing!
How have you found life in the First XV and Division 1 this season so far?
I’ve been quite surprised with how strong some of our opposition have been to be honest. There are teams that have been performing well at this standard for a while, that you expect to do well, however every team we have come up against have been extremely competitive. There’s de nitely no such thing as an easy game in this division.
