A short boy in a grubby corduroy cap, a checkered
shirt and baggy jeans that had seen better days,
waddled over to the center of the stage with his hands
in his pockets.
He turned to the row of presenters at the back of
the stage. “Pargash man; nobody actually wants to be
lonely.”
“Wait, wait.” Kayleigh Chen sprang from the side
of the stage like Catwoman carrying a cordless
microphone. She jammed it in Anwar’s left hand and
disappeared. Anwar turned to the audience.
"Nobody wants to be lonely. We all need someone
to talk to, someone who gets us, someone who'll listen
and tell us how it is—even if it's tough love sometimes.
We need someone to tell us we're not alone, and that
they're there for us."
Anwar's voice cracked as he spoke, his eyes
scanning the audience with empathy.
"Loneliness is real, guys. It's everywhere - in our
schools, our places where we worship, on the streets. It
