Birds of a Feather
Flock Together
Have you ever noticed that some of the people you
come across in business prefer to make themselves
look like a million bucks, while others just seem to enjoy
making a statement with their choice of clothing, and yet
others would rather dress to feel comfortable? That’s
right—we’re talking visual, auditory, and kinesthetic.
What’s more, you’ll probably find that if you’re the sort
of person for whom being visually immaculate is important,
you’ll be comfortable socializing and working with people
who dress like you. By the same token, those folks whose
personal dressing style favors loose, textured, or just plain
old comfortable clothing will be attracted to others who
dress similarly, and they’ll probably discover they have
more than just a dress code in common. And those with a
flair for making a personal statement with their wardrobe
will easily find inspiration in one another’s company.
Your plumage is like a sensory-biased uniform, attract-
ing others who share the same sensory preferences. But a
word of caution here. Make sure you’re not fooling your-
self into believing you have good people skills just because
you can get on with people who are like you: Eagle with
eagles, penguin with penguins, turkey with turkeys is the
easy, unconscious way to semisuccess.
