speak the language of the brain
negative pictures, sounds, or feelings. Here’s what I mean.
In your mind’s eye, can you make a picture of yourself
not feeding a dog? No, you can’t. All you can do is make a
picture of yourself doing something else—standing by the
dog, walking the dog, bungee jumping with the dog. These
are all pictures of you not feeding a dog. Your brain can
work only with positive information. It gets this informa-
tion from the experiences of your five senses, which it
then manipulates in the emotional blender we call the
imagination.
More Pleasure, or
More Problems?
I recently purchased a new computer system for my
office. When I thanked the woman for her help, she
replied, “No problem.”
Problem? Where did a problem suddenly come from? I
never thought of problems—until now. Let’s try again.
“Thanks for your help today.”
“It was a pleasure.”
Ah, “pleasure.” Now that feels much better. Give me
pleasure over problems any day, even subconsciously—
and subconsciously is how much of our language process-
ing goes on. Do you prefer to be greeted with “How goes
the battle?” or “Good to see you”?
