The Surprising Truth About Lying
Vincent, the man whose faith he had unintentionally
destroyed. They were the last remnants of the
revolution, now trapped in the fallout.
"We have to reverse it," Henry stated, his voice flat
with desperate certainty. "We have to reintroduce a
controlled, functional lie. A palliative truth. Something
that gives them a two percent chance of hope, just
enough to justify starting the engine again."
Lina stirred, sitting up instantly. Her eyes were still
furious, despite the exhaustion. "No. Absolutely not.
You want to be a liar again? We broke the system for
purity. We don't go back to the poison."
"The poison kept them alive!" Henry shouted,
jumping to his feet. "Purity is killing them! I need a
framework, a functional illusion that we can push
through The Gaze, a mandated lie that provides
structural stability without returning to corruption. I
need to know if we can build a safe lie."
Lina glared at him, shaking her head. Vincent
simply closed his eyes, leaning back against the cold
wall.
Henry was utterly alone in his realization. The only
way to save humanity from the truth was to betray his
own revolution.
