"Me neither. I keep thinking about Dr. Sharma. About all the people we've hurt."
"Do you think we're doing the right thing?"
Vincent was quiet for a long time. "I think we're doing a necessary thing. Whether it's right... I guess we'll find out."
"That's not very reassuring."
"I'm a former priest, not a fortune teller. I don't have answers. Just faith that somehow, this will lead somewhere better."
"And if it doesn't?"
"Then we'll have learned an important lesson about the limits of truth."
Henry helped serve food for an hour. Talked to people who'd lost everything. Some blamed Verax. Some thanked him for it. Most just wanted a hot meal and a place to sleep.
As he was leaving, a woman stopped him. She was young, maybe thirty, with tired eyes and a baby in her arms.
"You're Henry Talbot," she said.
"I am."
"I lost my job because of you. The company I worked for collapsed when Verax exposed their fraud."
"I'm sorry."
